Help us find 101 uses for our award-winning Ableton Live controller!
You probably already know that Launch Control XL is quite simply the ultimate controller for Ableton Live – but do you know just how much more it’s capable of beyond that?
Hooking up to your Mac or PC via USB MIDI, Launch Control XL’s 24 knobs, eight faders and 16 buttons integrate seamlessly with Live to give you nothing less than total hands-on control, both in the studio and on stage as a DJ MIDI controller.
However, that’s really only the beginning. Indeed, Launch Control XL is so flexible and versatile that we’re pretty sure even we haven’t exhausted its full potential. That’s why we’re inviting you to join us for Launch Control XL 101 – a mission to find 101 uses for our tactile box of tricks!
It’s simple, really: we want to hear your suggestions for productive, quirky and downright silly things that can be done with Launch Control XL. Here are five to get you thinking:
Use Launch Control XL alongside a MIDI keyboard. Play virtual instruments in Ableton Live and manipulate the mix at the same time.
Use Launch Control XL alongside Novation Circuit. Assign it to Circuit’s mixer, Macros, synths and drum machine with our five templates.
Use Launch Control XL with your MIDI hardware. It’s ideal for sending MIDI CCs to sequencers, synths and samplers.
Use Launch Control XL alongside Novation Launchpad. Pair it with Launchpad, Launchpad Pro or Launchpad mini for truly comprehensive performance and mix control.
Use Launch Control XL with other DAWs. It’s also HUI-enabled, for deep, intuitive mixer control in Cubase, Logic Pro and Pro Tools.
Those, then, are just a few of our favourite Launch Control XL deployments – give them a try yourself by downloading the relevant templates.
Now it’s time tell us yours.

How to make your own Launch Control XL template
Launch Control XL outputs regular MIDI CCs, so you can use it to control any hardware synth or non-HUI DAW (or work outside Ableton Live’s default mapping), and making your own MIDI templates for it couldn’t be easier. All you need is the Launch Control XL Editor software and the MIDI CC list for your target device or software. Check out our tutorials below to find out more.
